Birthmark Treatment Leeds at Medifine Aesthetics using Laser Therapy.

What is a Birthmark?

Birthmarks are coloured marks that are visible on the skin.  The two main types of birthmark are:

  • vascular birthmarks (often red, purple or pink) caused by abnormal blood vessels in or under the skin
  • pigmented birthmarks (usually brown) caused by clusters of pigment cells

The majority of birthmarks are harmless, but can sometimes cause a negative effect on self confidence.

Laser Treatment

Laser treatment works by targeting intense light energy onto the skin so that it destroys the red pigmentation. The laser light is absorbed by the blood vessel just beneath the surface, causing it to heat up. The heat damages the blood vessel, which creates a bruise that will fade within a week or two.

The Harmony XL Pro™ AFT™ & Dye-VL™ system is clinically proven to be both safe and effective.

The amount of treatments needed will depend upon the birthmark itself, so a consultation will be required to examine the birthmark.

How much does it cost?

The cost of laser treatment does vary dependant on the size of the birthmark requiring treatment. It is advised to book a free consultation where the birthmark can be examined and a more acute cost can be given. Please be aware that if you would like to go ahead with treatment, a test patch is required and costs £25.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

Treatment is suitable for most people. However, prior to treatment a free consultation is carried out during which a medical history is taken to confirm suitability for treatment. You will be asked to give informed consent and a small test patch will be carried out at least 24 hours prior to your first session.
