Juicing is a great way to increase the amount of fruit and vegetable which are not only abundant in vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibre, but phytochemicals and enzymes as well. Recent research by St Andrews University highlighted the powerful effect of fruit and vegetables in our daily diets; volunteers who increased their consumption of fresh produce found that their skin tone changed and ‘glowed.’ And it’s not just our skin that juicing can potentially improve; the increased vitamin content is widely reported to help with everything from hair growth and acne, to headaches and insomnia.

The Juice Master says, “These foods nourish every cell in the body, help prevent disease, flush the system of waste and contain more vitamins and minerals than you can rattle a plum at, and there isn’t a single person on the planet with any shred of common sense that could possibly argue against these magnificent foods!”

We have included a recipe from the Juice Master to help get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Apple
  • 2 Pears
  • 1 Parsnip
  • 1/4 Cucumber
  • 1/2 Lime (Peeled with the pith left on)
  • Fresh Mint (1 small handful)
  • Ice (1 small handful)

Instructions:

Juice all the ingredients. Simply pour over ice and enjoy!

Why this is good for you:

Pears are one of the highest fibre fruits. Their juice is loaded with pectin, a soluble fibre that acts like a gel in the intestine to help sweep through waste and trap any toxins that may be lurking. Parsnips are a great source of vitamins C, K ,E and folic acid. They also contain many important minerals including iron, calcium, manganese, copper and potassium. Cooling cucumber juice is rich in vitamins A,B,C beta carotene, K and folic acid and a wealth of minerals including sodium, potassium, calcium and phosphorus. Cucumbers are also rich in silicon and sulphur, which stimulate the kidneys to flush away toxins.

It is important to note, like with any food, in moderation is key. To find out how much nutritional intake is recommended by the FDA Food and Drug Administration check out their website – http://www.fda.gov/default.htm
